Tucked into a steep, forested limestone cliff above the river gorge, Wachey Cave is a sacred retreat sanctuary historically blessed by Guru Padmasambhava and later used by centuries of meditating hermits. Deep within the rock shelter flows a revered natural spring (drupchu), believed by locals to possess healing properties and spiritual purity, surrounded by centuries-old stone meditation cells, butter-lamp altars, and prayer flags fluttering in the cool mountain breeze.
Reaching the hermitage involves a moderate uphill hike through dense oak, fern, and rhododendron forests that feel untouched by modern tourism. Travelers often encounter resident retreat monks who spend years in silent contemplation, welcoming respectful visitors with blessings from the holy spring. The secluded cliffside setting offers complete tranquility and sweeping views across the virgin forest canopies of the lower Dagana basin.
