Bhutan, Beyond the Ordinary

Lhamoizingkha Sub-Tropical Forest & River Valley

Lhamoizingkha Sub-Tropical Forest & River Valley

Located in the southernmost pocket of the district along the foothills, the Lhamoizingkha valley marks a dramatic ecological shift from rugged mountain terrain to lush, tropical broadleaf rainforests and wide, braided riverbanks. Traversed by the clear waters of the Kalikhola, the area forms an important ecological corridor for diverse wildlife, including hornbills, wild elephants, barking deer, and rare subtropical bird species.

A guided walk along the riverbanks and through the bordering community forests offers travelers an immersive nature experience far removed from standard highway routes. Visitors can explore quiet citrus orchards, cross bamboo suspension bridges, and observe how local communities live in close harmony with the rich flora and fauna of the sub-Himalayan plains.
