Spring (Mar – May)
Wild rhododendron forests explode in red, pink, and white across Dochula and Pele La passes. Warm valley days and the world-renowned Paro Tsechu festival occur in spring.

Crisp, bright, sunny days with cold nights. Perfect visibility across the valleys with virtually no other tourists. Endangered black-necked cranes winter in Phobjikha.

Monsoon showers refresh the rice paddies and orchards. Wildflowers, mushrooms (matsutake), and waterfalls flourish. Showers typically occur in late afternoons or evenings.

Because you will move between warm valleys (Punakha at 1,300m) and high mountain passes (Chele La at 3,980m) in a single afternoon, dressing in versatile layers is key.
