Yongla Goempa
Perched dramatically atop a high mountain peak overlooking the southern plains, Yongla Goempa is one of the oldest and most sacred monasteries in eastern Bhutan. Founded in the 18th century by Khengpar Yongla Lama Kunsang Tenpai Nyima, a disciple of the famous master Jigme Lingpa, the monastery holds immense historical and spiritual value.
During past conflict periods, the monastery served as a vital strategic lookout and spiritual sanctuary. Today, pilgrims trek to this mountain shrine to pray for peace, meditate in its tranquil surroundings, and take in the sweeping views that extend all the way to the plains near the Indian border.
