Paro international Airport (Dzongkha: སྤ་རོ་གནམ་ཐང༌ paro nam thang) is the only international airport in the country. It is maintained and run by the Department of Air Transport. Paro Airport is 5 km from Paro in a deep valley on the bank of the river Pa Chhu. With surrounding peaks as high as 5,500 m (18,000 ft), it is considered one of the world’s most challenging airports, and only a select number of pilots are certified to land at the airport. The flight into the deep and beautiful valley of Paro itself is an exhilarating experience.
It now operates to seven destinations; Kolkata, Gaya, Delhi,Kathmandu, Dhaka, Singapore and Bangkok, compared to two when it first assumed scheduled flights in 1983.The airline fleet consist of three Airbus 319 delivered in 2004 to replace the two BAE 146s which were in service since 1988 and one ATR-42.

Ltd) first began its commercial flight Paro – Bangkok on the 10th of October 2013 followed by daily scheduled flight to Kolkata on the 16th of December 2013. Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services Limited was incorporated as State Owned Enterprises on 9th July, 2015 under the Companies Act of Kingdom of Bhutan 2000. RBHSL is committed to provide efficient and affordable alternative transport in the country that is safe, comfortable and reliable. The government plans to use the helicopter for search and rescue, air medical evacuations, firefighting, moving cargo, transport of VIPs and government officials, and possibly even for tourism, among others.
