Yangthang Goemba

Yangthang Goemba

Perched on a forested hill slope above the Haa Chhu river, Yangthang Goemba is an early 20th-century monastery deeply connected to the local farming communities. Built on a site blessed by the revered Drukpa Kagyu master Lama Choying Gyatsho, the monastery houses beautifully preserved statuary of the Eight Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche alongside detailed murals depicting the Wheel of Life and guardian deities.

The approach involves a gentle walk through open barley terraces and pine forests, making it one of the most accessible village monastery visits in the valley. Travelers consistently appreciate the tranquility here; free from large tour groups, visitors often spend unhurried time interacting with resident monks as they prepare daily water offerings and practice traditional ritual instruments in the sunlit courtyard.
